Operation Safe Driver Week is quickly approaching. The event, which was created by the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA), will take place from July 15 through July 21. During that week, police officers nationwide will be on the lookout for unsafe driving behaviors among both commercial and passenger vehicle drivers in the hopes of keeping the roads safe for everyone.
The unsafe driving behaviors that officers will be looking for will include:
- Distracted driving
- Failure to obey traffic control devices
- Improper lane changing
- Failure to wear a seat belt
There are approximately 15.5 million trucks in the United States. Of those, approximately 13 percent are tractor trailers, big rigs, and semis. Because of the sheer size, weight, and power of a commercial truck, truck accidents can be extremely devastating. In fact, approximately 98 percent of all truck accidents result in a fatality. For every 100 miles driven on American roads, there are 2.3 fatalities and 60.5 injuries attributed to big rigs.
