Elizabeth Boy Struck and Seriously Injured by Freight Train

A thirteen-year-old boy from Elizabeth, New Jersey was struck by a freight train and sustained serious injuries on Thursday evening. The accident occurred around 7:15 pm near Franklin Street along an elevated set of tracks. The boy was taken to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey where he is being treated for his personal injuries.

Due to the speed at which a freight train travels, any pedestrian in its path risks catastrophic injuries and even a fatality. Although a train engineer may make every effort to stop in time, the engineer may be going too fast to stop before striking a pedestrian or another obstacle. When a train derails in a congested area, pedestrian accidents may be more common and effect multiple individuals.
