New Jersey’s Safest Hospitals

New Jersey Hospital Malpractice Lawyers provide a list of New Jersey's safest hospitals. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades survey has been released twice annually since 2012. The survey measures how safe a hospital keeps a patient while they are being cared for, rather than focusing on the doctor’s care. This grading system was developed because of a 1999 report by the Institute of Medicine. That shocking report revealed that hospital errors fatally injured about 98,000 patients a year. Moreover, New Jersey did not fare well with survey results.

The latest survey has shown that only 22 of the 65 hospitals that were graded earned high marks, compared to the 30 that did so in October. This downward slide means that New Jersey’s national ranking for the strategies used to prevent infections, falls, and other harmful mistakes has gone from 11th to 17th.

Leapfrog graded 2,500 hospitals nationwide for its most recent report. The top five states included Hawaii, Idaho, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Virginia. North Dakota, Delaware, and Alaska tied for last place, while New York and Maryland were only slightly better.

In the latest report, 15 hospitals in New Jersey slipped one or two grades, while 12 improved. The only hospital in the state to earn a failing grade was University Hospital, a state-run facility in Newark.

Here are the 22 New Jersey hospitals that received an “A” grade:
