Lawsuit alleges Rutgers Athletics squandered millions in public funds amid $78M deficit
At $78 million in debt, the Rutgers University Athletics Department is now the target of a lawsuit alleging they wasted significant taxpayer dollars while debts skyrocketed. Over the past four years, the university received $27.2 million in taxpayer money. A Rutgers alumnus and former judge is suing the school’s athletic department, alleging it mishandled millions in taxpayer dollars.
ECZ lawyer and Shareholder Barry Eichen is serving as co-counsel on the case.
“There’s a lot of taxpayer money that goes to the school, and it leaves people with a bad taste in their mouths,” Eichen said. “Especially New Jerseyans, who pay the highest property taxes in the country.”
The lawsuit demands accountability for how public funds were spent.
