News12 New Jersey Reports: grieving mother demands answers about her son’s death at Fort Monmouth Day program
Over a month ago, Justin McCafferty, a 22-year-old with autism and special needs, died at Fort Monmouth Day Program in Oceanport.
Justin’s mother Kim McCafferty is demanding answers and her family’s grief is turning to anger as very little new information has been revealed, and authorities have shared very little progress on the case.
The McCaffertys hired Daryl Zaslow, a wrongful death lawyer and ECZ shareholder, who is now suing the program for $35 million.
“You go from the sense of disbelief to anger,” Zaslow said on the News12 broadcast. He explained that a passerby found Justin, not a staff member, even though Justin was supposed to have line-of-sight supervision at all times.
“The answers should be right there,” said Zaslow. “There should be cameras in a lot of places here.”
McCafferty shared photos and memories of Justin before remembering the moment she was told what had happened.
“I knew we were going to the room where they tell you the person you love is dead,” McCafferty said.
McCafferty also explained how hard it would be to face Mother’s Day, her wedding anniversary, and Justin’s birthday over the next few days without her son.
