New Jersey Construction Accident Lawyers: Fatal Crane Accident

Tragedy recently struck in Hanover, New Jersey when two New Jersey construction workers were fatally injured following a crane accident. The workers were employed by a crew that had been building a new fire station just before the accident occurred.

The Whippany firefighters were quickly on the scene of the accident, which had occurred at the location of their soon-to-be fire house off of Route 10. One worker was crushed by a generator while another worker was seriously injured and later pronounced dead due to the construction accident, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s office.

The incident is thought to have been caused by two of four yellow support belts that had been used to secure the generator onto the crane that was placing the heavy object into its intended permanent place. As the crane was guiding the generator, the two belts snapped, causing it to flip onto the two workers.

What was meant to be a new beginning for the Whippany Fire Department has turned into a potential third-party liability case, as prosecutors are unclear as to why the belts snapped. With investigation still under way, it has yet to be seen whether this accident has been caused by a potential defective product or came as a result of construction site negligence.

Currently, OSHA has fined Precision Building, the general contractor at the construction site, as well as the workers’ employers, Boz Electric and Industrial Process and Equipment. Additionally, City Erectors – who provided the crane and crane operator – has been cited for OSHA violations.
