Dodge Demon is a Danger to Drivers

New Jersey Car Accident Lawyers report on the dangers to drivers posed by the Dodge Demon. Car enthusiasts and those with a penchant for speed have eagerly awaited the unveiling of Fiat-Chrysler’s Dodge Challenger SRT Demon, a car so powerful and fast that some are calling for it to be banned as an on-road vehicle. According to an editorial published in Automotive News, the Demon’s powerful 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 engine puts all motorists on the road at risk for serious and fatal car accidents. Capable of going from zero to 60 miles per hour in a two to three second period, the Demon can reach speeds as fast as 140 miles in less than 10 seconds.

The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) recently declared the Demon as the fastest quarter mile car in the world, which helped fuel the fire to ban the car as an on-road vehicle. The car is incredibly track oriented and it is being sold with only a driver’s seat. Passenger seats are cheaply priced at one dollar, but must be ordered as options.

Fans of the Dodge Demon argue that other new vehicles, such as General Motor’s Tesla and the Dodge Viper, have equally strong engines as the Challenger SRT, yet those vehicles have not been banned. Those worried about encountering the Demon on the road may not have to worry much. The price tag for the new car starts at an astonishing $85,000, but only 3,000 cars are being made available to dealers in the United States.

Cars Are Primarily Used as Marketing Tools

Fiat-Chrysler and local dealerships do not have big expectations that the car will be flying off the showroom floor. The Demon is being marketed as a tool to draw customers into the showroom with the hope that they will buy a less expensive, more practical Chrysler vehicle. Certain dealerships have gone as far as marking up the price tag for the Demon by $50,000, which elevates the vehicle to a much higher car class.

While most car manufacturers are moving toward designing cars with safety, fuel efficiency, and environmentally friendly features, Fiat-Chrysler seems to be going in the opposite direction with the new Challenger SRT Demon. More technology is being installed in cars and SUVs that are leading toward autonomous vehicles, but with the capability of reaching speeds up to 140 miles per hour in 10 seconds, it does not appear likely that the Demon will be driving itself anytime soon.
